Support an Increased Cost of Living Adjustment for Direct Care Service Agency Staff!

Dear Legislator, 

As your constituent and someone who cares deeply about our fellow community members who require intense and specialized services, I strongly urge you to support an increased cost of living adjustment (COLA) for direct care service staff.

The executive budget includes a 2.1 percent inflationary increase, which includes a COLA for human service providers who contract with a variety of state agencies to care for New Yorkers. I am calling on you to support a 7.8 percent COLA for those who work in these agencies.

We must support those who dedicate their lives to assisting our fellow New Yorkers — from youth to old age — by providing a decent and robust wage for doing work that is so vitally important to maintain the decency and uphold the humanity of those who need these services.

Thank you for your consideration of this important matter. I respectfully ask that you bring up this issue with your conference and I would greatly appreciate a response to this email.
