Subject:
Defend the freedom to read and learn!
Message:
Dear Legislator,
As your constituent and someone who cares deeply about the ability to offer a varied and diverse array of books and materials in school and community libraries, I am writing to encourage you to pass S.6350-B (May)/A.6873 (O’Donnell) and S.7677-A (May)/A.7843-B (Kelles).
Passage of S.6350-B (May)/A.6873 (O’Donnell) will ensure that school libraries and library staff such as certified library media specialists (school librarians), are empowered to curate and develop collections that provide students with access to the widest array of developmentally appropriate materials available to school districts. Not only will this provide students with access to a greater variety of books and materials, but it will also foster student engagement and enrichment and instill a love of reading.
The passage of S.7677-A (May)/A.7843-B (Kelles) is critical to ensure that all New Yorkers have access to collections, services and programming that reflect the diverse interests of their communities. Providing a broad range of books and materials at local libraries will help visitors to develop and grow their love of reading and broaden their views and perceptions.
Both school libraries and public libraries should serve as centers of learning and knowledge.
Accordingly, I urge you to work with your conference and your leadership to ensure passage of S.6350-B (May)/A.6873 (O’Donnell) and S.7677-A (May)/A.7843-B (Kelles).
Thank you for your consideration of this important matter. I look forward to a reply to my e-mail.
Sincerely,
×
