Fully Fund our Public Schools!

Dear Legislator,

By now, I'm sure you know that the executive budget includes a significant decrease in public school funding this year. But what is only becoming clear is how harmful this proposed budget will be for all schools across the state.

The reduction in Foundation Aid—proposing only a $507 million increase versus the $926 million expected under current law—will strip our schools of the necessary resources to provide quality education. This decision not only breaks a promise made to our children and educators but also jeopardizes the future of our communities by undermining the foundation of a strong and equitable education system.

The impact of this shortfall will be felt across all districts, disproportionately affecting those already struggling. Without the promised funding, schools will be forced to make cuts that could mean larger class sizes, reduced educational programs, and a decline in the quality of education our children receive. This is not just a budgetary issue; it is a question of our priorities and values as a state.

New York's students deserve better. We can do better. And we know you in the state legislature want better for the communities you serve and for the entire state.

I urge you to stand up for our students and schools by doing everything you can to properly fund our public schools. Our children deserve a future built on the promise of a high-quality education, and our responsibility is to ensure that promise is kept.
