Increase the Cost of Living Adjustment
As a constituent and a proud union member, I ask for your support in ensuring the continued retirement security for public retirees.
In 2000, the state enacted a cost of living adjustment (COLA) for retirees who are members of a public retirement system. However, factors such as inflation, rising health care costs and longer life expectancies have significantly impacted retiree income security. Therefore, the COLA should be adjusted to reflect these factors and to provide income security for retirees.
I would urge you to address this issue by increasing the amount of pensionable income and/or increasing the percentage of CPI used to calculate the COLA. These initiatives will ensure that our public retirees can remain independent and enjoy a secure retirement.
Thank you for your consideration of this important matter. I respectfully ask that you bring up this issue with your conference. I look forward to a reply to my email.
