Leave Time for COVID Vaccinations
Dear Legislator, As a union member and a constituent who would like to see us defeat the COVID virus, I urge you to support S.8529 (Gounardes)/A.9513 (Fall), which will extend through 2023, the ability of public employees who are eligible to receive the COVID vaccination, up to four hours of excused leave to get vaccinated. As we enter the third year of the global COVID pandemic, the virus continues to mutate. It is imperative that public employees be granted sufficient leave-time to receive the vaccine and boosters created to combat the latest COVID variant.
Public employees already receive similar statutory leave for cancer screenings. It remains everyone's hope that we will one day defeat COVID, and our essential public workforce will no longer need this leave but allowing the existing law to lapse while we are still combating the devastating effects of the virus would be short sited. Hopefully, granting a one-year extension of the current law will be more than enough time to truly end this terrible pandemic. Thank you for your consideration of this important matter. I respectfully ask that you bring up this issue with your conference. I look forward to a reply to my email. Sincerely,
