Public school educators spend their days nurturing and supporting children, yet New York City’s current parental leave policy forces them to choose between their own children and their profession. New mothers must use sick days — if they have enough — to be home with their newborns.
New York City should be at the forefront of efforts to pioneer progressive policies. Yet other cities like Atlanta, Seattle and Austin are leading the way when it comes to paid parental leave for city workers while our own city drags its feet.
Please send an email to mayor Bill de Blasio and your local Council member calling on them to support paid parental leave for public school educators.
