Subject:
Call on your lawmakers to ban deceptive vape products designed to target kids.
Message:
Dear Legislator:
AI am writing as a concerned constituent to urge you to pass S.195 (Martinez)/A.2102 (Fall), legislation that would prohibit the sale of vape products and packaging designed to resemble school supplies, toys or other products that appeal to children.
This is not a hypothetical problem; it is already happening in our schools. Vape devices are being manufactured to look like highlighters, USB drives, smartwatches and other everyday items that blend seamlessly into students’ backpacks and classrooms. These deceptive designs make it nearly impossible for educators and parents to spot them, and they're fueling a growing health crisis in our schools.
At the same time, we're facing a growing youth nicotine crisis. Nicotine is highly addictive and particularly to young, developing brains. It negatively affects memory, concentration, learning and impulse control — the very functions that students need to succeed in school. When these products are intentionally disguised, they become even more accessible and harder to regulate.
Allowing companies to deliberately market addictive products to children while evading detection puts more young people at risk every day.
S.195 / A.2102 offers a straightforward solution by banning the sale of these misleading products. We can't afford to let this issue escalate in our schools.
I respectfully urge you to take swift action by advancing this legislation and advocating for its passage within your conference. Our students’ health and safety depend on it.
Sincerely,
