We want to make March a month of action! Will you make your voice heard?

Already, 2017 has been a year of dynamic action and inspiring solidarity. Our activists did an amazing job leading the charge against Betsy DeVos…an effort that resulted in bipartisan opposition to DeVos in the U.S. Senate. We have stood strong to tell Washington and Albany that they cannot ignore the needs of public schools and colleges, students, and educators. And we will continue to stand together, to advocate, and to resist.

Here are eleven things you can do to take action in March!

1. Attend a town hall meeting – The Town Hall Project has created a website that has every member of Congress’ town halls and public appearances. Check it out and then attend a town hall meeting and ask a question on School Vouchers and/or Health Care. Go and tell a story why you love public schools.

2. Fight for Funding – State Budget negotiations are underway and our public schools, colleges, and hospitals are depending on our legislators to raise revenue to fund them! Fax your legislators HERE to ask them to fight to expand the Millionaire’s Tax and close the Carried Interest Loophole NOW and make the wealthiest New Yorkers #PayAFairShare.

3. Form a Rapid Response Resistance (the 3Rs) Team in your region – Identify other activists and invite them to an organizing meeting. Looking for others who’d like to join you? Contact your Regional Political Organizer to be connected to a local 3Rs group.

4. Post Card Signing – Hold a post card drive to ask your local Congressperson to protect public education from Betsy DeVos’ agenda – request postcards here.

5. Oppose Judge Gorsuch – We oppose Supreme Court Nominee Judge Gorsuch because of his record and views - ruling against students with disabilities, consistently siding with big business at the expense of working people, and embracing extremist views. SIGN A PETITION urging senators to vote NO on Judge Gorsuch.

6. Organize a phone banking house party! Call other NYSUT members and ask them to call their legislators to fight to keep the Foundation Aid school aid formula and to fund a $2.1 billion increase in school funding. Contact your RPO to set this up.

7. Write a Letter to the Editor of your local newspaper and let them know why you’re #PublicSchoolProud or why you are #SUNYProud/#CUNYProud – Here is a sample.

8. Help stop the Constitutional Convention! Expose the Con in the Constitutional Convention and make a special donation to the NYSUT No NY Convention Fund!

9. Sign up for MAC Text Alerts – Do you get our text alerts on Take Action Tuesdays? If not, sign up by texting NYSUT to 38470. Ask 3 friends to sign up too!

10. Wear RED in solidarity – On March 8 the organizers of the Women’s March on Washington are planning "a day without women" – wear RED in solidarity with this day of action. (More Information Here)

11. Plan a day of action event for May 1, 2017 – questions? Contact your Regional Political Organizer.

Let’s make March a month of action and make a difference for New York!
